A WCAG color contrast checker measures the contrast between a foreground color and background color to determine whether the combination meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) contrast requirements. Creative Entourage's free WCAG Color Contrast Grid allows you to test multiple HEX colors at once, making it easier to evaluate an entire brand color palette.
-
WCAG Level AA requires a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Large text is generally defined as at least 18 point, or 14 point if bold.

Enter your brand's HEX colors into Creative Entourage's free WCAG Color Contrast Grid. The tool compares each color against every other color in your palette and displays the contrast ratio and applicable WCAG rating. This makes it easy to identify accessible combinations for text and backgrounds.

Not necessarily. An existing brand color can often remain part of the palette while an accessible companion color is introduced for digital typography and other applications requiring greater contrast. Creative Entourage recommends defining appropriate color combinations and digital-use colors within brand standards so designers and communications teams know when each color should be used.

Brand colors eventually appear on websites, digital documents, social media graphics, presentations, email communications and other digital materials. Considering accessibility while developing the brand palette helps prevent problems later and gives designers and communications teams clear guidance for creating accessible communications.
